Bellas Landscaping Sod & Seed Care

Sod

Watering

The best time to water sod is early morning or evenings. Do not water in the heat of the day. For the first three days water your new sod twice a day. Make sure to get the sod soaked and the soil underneath the sod wet. Usually this can be done with a sprinkler in about 1 1/2 hours. After the first three days cut your watering back to once a day making sure to get the soil underneath the sod wet. Continue watering once a day for 2 weeks. Be sure to cut back watering if rain showers occur. After 2-3 weeks of steady water you can begin to cut back on the watering.

Mowing

Wait to mow until you can pull up on the sod and the sod does not move. For the first couple mows be sure to mow the grass at 3.5 inches to 4 inches in height. After several mows you can reduce the height down to approximaltey 3 inches in height.

Seed and Hyrdoseed

Watering

Watering a newly seeded lawn takes dedication, patients and know-how. Frequent light watering is the best way to water new seed. It is very important to not let the ground and seed dry out. Be sure to water in the morning and evenings, but you may need to water during the afternoons on hot days when the lawn begins to dry out. After about 3 weeks of keeping the ground moist you can cut your watering back to 2 to 3 times a week. Once lawn is established you can water as desired. After 3-6 weeks spot seed any areas where desired and water those areas as described in the beginning.

Mowing

Begin mowing once grass is at the desired mowing height of about 3.5 inches. Keep grass tall to help prevent weeds and promote a healthy root system. It is best to bag your grass clippings to begin with.
